What are your thoughts on ‘Diamonds’?

With the world premiere of Rihanna‘s new single ‘Diamonds’ only a matter of hours away, the lyrics to the song has been unveiled via her official website Rihanna7.com. ‘Diamonds’ will premiere on ‘Elvis Duran & The Morning Show’  tomorrow morning (Wednesday September 26th) at 8am ET. Seven months after the untimely death of R&B legend Whitney Houston comes a brand new greatest hits collection ‘I Will Always Love You – The Best of Whitney Houston’. The first song to be unveiled from the album is a new duet version of  ‘I Look To You’ featuring R. Kelly. Kelly wrote the track for Whitney back in 2009 and also performed it at her funeral. Take a listen to the track after the break.

I always loved this song, because it was the perfect soundtrack for her life over the last years. R. Kelly is a genius as a producer and singer for taking the soundtrack and making it more current to reflect that she is no longer with us.

The greatest hits collection ‘I Will Always Love You – The Best of Whitney Houston’ which is due for release on November 12.

What are your thoughts on the new version of the track?

The Pop princess of auto tune, Ke$ha makes her her highly anticipated return with today’s arrival of  first single from her forthcoming second studio album,  ‘Warrior’. The lead single titled ‘Die Young‘ is produced by Dr. Luke with additional production from Cirkut & Benny Blanco. Co-producer Benny Blanco described the track as “old hippie rock.” Listen to the track after the break.

The lyrics are very catchy and laced with repetition over a super pop beat which results in a very generic and radio friendly track. Ke$ha has done it again, I foresee her snatching another top ten on the billboard hot 100.

A video for the single was shot in Japan last month. It is expected to be released in the coming days.

The track is available on iTunes today (Sept. 25) in the US.

Miguel’s highly anticipated second studio album Kaleidoscope Dream is set to be officially released October 2, 2012 but you won’t have to wait until then to hear the entire album. The full length album, which has been released piece by piece over the summer, sounds like the Los Angeles-born singer took a hard look at R&B, pop, rock, funk and “club-aware electronic soul,” gleefully smashed those plates and glued them all together. This is an album about re-ordering the past, directing the present. It’s made up of love songs, but they are more specifically songs arguing for love, acting casual, wishing and hoping and then imagining what it would be like to consummate. Early days and misadventures. It’s soul-baring, but mirrored and fairly guarded.

The title track samples Labi Siffre’s immortal “I Got The,” recognizable from Eminem’s “My Name Is.” The lead vocal runs back and forth over the bass line like it’s a game of Red Rover. Miguel creeps up behind the note sometimes, but he usually ends up squarely on top of it. On “Use Me” he relies on an amped-up shaker to push through a case of the nerves. “It’s the very first time,” he sings. “Can I trust you?” On “Candles in the Wind” he loses the reins a bit, asking after God, quoting Biggie Smalls and indulging in more runs than usual over a sparser beat. More than a third of the songs here are powered by guitar and on most of them the narrator is telling the listener what to do. They are primed for live performance.

Miguel’s voice is emerald-colored. Light shines through, but it’s not sleeping-bag warm. His falsetto sounds like it was hard to come by, not like he woke up sounding like that. Miguel is not Teddy Pendergrass. He is not Luther Vandross. He’s working harder than those guys, but you don’t see him sweat. Like Sly Stone, he holds the listener at arm’s length. He is closer to Stevie Wonder, Prince and Van Morrison. He is a perfectionist, trying to catch the eye of people looking around for the cheeky R&B of their teenage years, be it Little Richard-level insinuations, or absurd provocations in the style of Akinyele or the fully committed mastery of Tony! Toni! Tone!Kaleidoscope Dream requires a few twists to bring Miguel’s vision into focus — and once you’ve found it, you’ll laugh more then you planned to. -NPR

How are you feeling the album?

Rihanna is high on life and now she is about to be high on a girl’s best friend, diamonds. Yesterday the singer unveiled the official artwork for her upcoming new single ‘Diamonds‘, set to be released this week. The track will be the first single from Rihanna’s  upcoming seventh album.The classic black and white artwork shown above,  shows Riri rolling diamonds into what would usually be used for marijuana.

While some have applaud the singer for ditching the naked covers, others are outraged by what they believe is the solicitation of drugs. I would like to know where was the outrage when numerous male hip hop artist actually had the marijuana plant on their covers? Seems like it’s a double standard to be outrage now that a female artist decides to do something slightly similar. This goes to show that a artist will never be able to please everyone.

The single premieres Wednesday the 24th at 8am ET on the ‘Elvis Duran Morning Show’  and will become available to buy on iTunes at 9am.

What are your thoughts on the artwork and are you excited to hear the new single?

Rock band No Doubt drops their sixth studio album ‘Push & Shove‘ today September 25th in the US. In celebration of today’s release the band also premiered the music video for “Push and Shove”. The track serves as a promotional single from their sixth studio album of the same name. It features production from Major Lazer as well as vocals from Jamaican dancehall artist Busy Signal. Don’t expect to see Busy in this video because he is currently serving a six month prison sentence for cocaine-related charges here in the US. Watch the new music video after the break.

This is one rock band that can never go wrong with a dancehall collaboration. In the past they have collaborated with dancehall artists Bounty Killer and the Queen of dancehall Lady Saw which were both smash hits. Although the music video isn’t really anything to discuss, the single is definitely another smash. What are your thoughts on the single?

Frank Ocean makes new waves with the debuted of a new track ‘Blue Whale‘ on his official Tumblr page. The track marks a rare rapping appearance, a little different from what listeners got from his debut studio album Channel Orange. Listen to ‘Blue Wale‘ after the break. 

Lyrically Ocean served up a song with substance but I would be lying if I said I love this track. I would much rather hear him sing than rap but I understand that a artist cannot be limited. What are you thoughts on this track?
